Featuring a Special Performance by Supaman

Supaman in feather head dressButte College is proud to announce its inaugural Big Time event on Thursday, March 30, 2023 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the main campus in Oroville, California. This social gathering in celebration of Native American people and cultures will feature a variety of cultural experiences, including feather dancers, a drum group, craft and jewelry vendors, food, traditional games and a special performance by Supaman at 12:30 p.m.

Supaman, an award-winning hip-hop artist and member of the Apsaalooke Nation, is known for his fusion of traditional Native American music and contemporary rap. His unique style and message of hope and resilience have earned him a large following, and his performance is sure to be a highlight of the event.

In addition to the entertainment, visitors will have the opportunity to shop from a selection of craft and jewelry vendors, offering unique and authentic pieces. Food will be available for purchase, including Indian tacos, strawberry frybread and Rez dogs.

For those interested in participating in traditional games, the Native American Club’s booth will have opportunities to learn how to play staves and to win some Butte College swag while learning.

The Butte College Native American Center organized the event along with a cross-departmental team from student services.

“This event is a ceremony of healing, laughter and love. It is a chance to be in the present and appreciate what we as a community have been through. The dam, fires, COVID-19 -- we all have struggled over the recent years, and this Big Time is a celebration to heal our wounds from those traumas and connect with one another, all while respecting, observing and learning about diverse Native American cultures,” said Frankie Medrano, Native American retention specialist.

"We are thrilled to host this event, which celebrates the rich traditions and cultures of the first people of this area," said Superintendent/President Virginia L. Guleff. "We hope that everyone who attends will not only find it enjoyable but will also gain a deeper understanding of and appreciation for the Native American community."

The Big Time is free and open to the public. It will be a fun-filled day for all ages and a wonderful opportunity to learn and connect with our Native American Center, local tribes and Butte College.
