International Programs and Services

使命宣言

The Office of International Student Services’ purpose is to increase, in a steady and sustainable way, the number of international students enrolled at Butte College and to provide services and support to promote their academic success and personal growth.

Program 描述

In order to meet our goal of increasing the number of international students on our campus each year, it has been incumbent upon Butte College to actively recruit in foreign countries. In countries that we are unable to visit, Butte uses web marketing, and other marketing tools to reach out to prospective students. The other major activity of the department is to provide international students with special services such as help with housing, special admissions help, an orientation designed for new international students and specialized academic and immigration advising.

Student Learning/Administrative Unit Outcomes

We are currently evaluating our SLO’s to ensure continuous improvement of the program. We are creating a survey of student satisfaction to identify areas of success and improvement.

Standards/Goals for Student Achievement (All Other Departments)

The International Program supports the college in meeting its student achievement standards by recruiting students to the campus and providing retention services when they enroll. We work with the Center for Academic Success to provide custom workshops and academic services to support international students. We also work with Transfer 咨询 to provide workshops to support international students interested in transferring to a university. This supports the improvement of Completion Rates, Degree/Certificate Completion and Transfer.

Strategic Direction

Enhancing a Culture of Inclusiveness

International students enrich the campus and provide a global perspective on campus.

项目评审

  1. Continue to pursue relationships with English language schools in Korea and China. This is still being pursued.
  2. Create a focus group of international and domestic students to determine ways to implement “friendship program” with same-age students. This is still being pursued.

部门目标

1. Expand recruitment efforts to new markets.

2. Expand ways to increase enrollment of international students.

Future Development Strategies

Strategy 1 - Increase and Diversify Recruitment

Diversifying international student enrollment requires diversifying marketing and recruitment models/modes. To enable the Butte College program to do this we must invest in new strategies (web based, expand to new countries, 部分费用减免.) The increase in marketing and recruitment also allows the program to grow its number of educational oversea partners and alumni network so as to sustain program growth.

Supporting Rationale

The International Program budget supports the salaries of its full time employees and percentages of supporting positions. Salaries and benefits account for 77% of the expenditures. The constant increase in benefits and salary step increases ultimately decreases our operating budget which limits the amount of recruitment and outreach that can take place each year. Without an increase in student enrollment the recruitment budget will continues to decrease.

Supporting Rationale Alignment
Supports Previous 项目评审 Recommendations: Yes
Supports Changes from Student Learning Outcomes Assessment: No

Requested Non-Financial Resources

  1. Meeting space for 20-30 people
  2. Location on campus to host all International Student Services (i.e. 现金娱乐网注册, 咨询, Program Coordinator, Student Events/Workshops) - office space and common meeting areas

Current Financial Resources

International Program Budget - $389K (50% of Paid Non-Resident Fees for F-1 visa students)

描述 Supporting Rationale Potential Alternative Funding Sources Prioritization Criteria

International Student Fee Waiver of Resident Tuition Cost The ability to market a fee waiver for first semester international students would greatly increase the Butte College International Program marketing and recruitment potential. To offer this incentive/promise to a student they will be more likely to select our college to attend. It would increase inquiries about our admission, allow our program to answer “yes” to "do you offer international scholarships" and offer a program most of our competitors are not able to offer. Our proposal is as follows: Fall 2018 – 40 new students a $500 fee waiver = $20,000 Spring 2019 – 30 new students a $500 fee waiver = $15,000
